Rev Ethan McCarter Ordination & Installation

It was a joy to join with around 200 others on a snowy night in November 2024, when Ethan McCarter was ordained to the work of the Christian ministry, and installed as Minister of the Crosscollyer Street congregation.

The Moderator, Rev John Roger, presided along with Rev Dr Robert Beckett and conducted opening devotions, including congregational singing of the hymn “The Church’s One Foundation” and prayer offered by Rev Dr Beckett. This was followed by a Scripture reading from Psalm 126 and the singing of the hymn “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus”.

Ernest Brown, Clerk of Session in Crosscollyer St, then provided a narrative of events leading to Ethan’s call. Following this, the Commission of Presbytery was formally constituted by the Moderator and the Clerk of Presbytery put the prescribed questions to Ethan. Ethan then signed the Formula of Subscription.

Rev Andy Hambleton brought a wonderful charge to the Minister and Congregation from Psalm 126:3-6, reminding us to Pray for the Lord’s Blessing, Persevere in the Lord’s Work, Rejoice in the Lord’s Harvest.

It was a hugely significant night for both the McCarter family & the Crosscollyer Street church, who had been without a Minister for 9 years. We thank Rev Robert Beckett for his faithful ministry in the church, and huge energies expended looking after the congregation during their vacancy; and continue to pray for Ethan & Laura, and the congregation in these early days together.
